No Kung Fu is not a sport. However, it is a year round activity that can compliment your child's other seasonal physical activities. The only goal scored in Kung Fu is when our littlest students grow to become well-rounded individuals we do this through personal accountability and of course physical training.
Because Kung Fu is skill-based, it is a great way for friends and families with diverse physical talents and abilities to participate in and improve together. It is also an amazing way to develop friendships with interesting people that can last a lifetime.
Our program also provide opportunities to benefit from private lessons it also gives your child a comprehensive system of healthy living, and character development skills which better provide your him/her with the tools to deal with life’s challenges.
At Shaolin Temple Cultural Center USA, our program helps provide teenagers them with a sense of purpose and accountability. We feel it’s important for teens to grow in a positive environment which shares the importance of mental and physical well being. Our center also has a leadership program where students learn how to cultivate themselves to become mentors and future leaders of their community.
So how is Shaolin Kung Fu different from other Martial Arts?
Shaolin Kung Fu differs from other martial arts because it is not a sport based activity such as Boxing, Judo, Tae kwon do, Jiu-jitsu or Karate. Specifically speaking, Kung Fu is the study of Human Potential and a person who is good at Kung Fu is in constant awareness of self development, so yes we teach martial arts, but that is just one aspect, we also teach students to cultivate themselves through the practice of morality, meditation & wisdom.
For professionals who are at their desks or commuting in their vehicles all day, exercise is absolutely essential, but more than that, it’s important that we all maintain positive social connections with other adults as we age. So ask yourself… Do you need a challenge? Do you want a to transform your life? Shaolin Kung Fu is a great place to start.
Some food for thought
Our program comes from Shaolin Temple, a location in China that is considered a cradle of Chinese civilization. The temple was stablished in 495 A.D. during the Northern Wei Dynasty of China and in 517 A.D., a South Indian Buddhist monk named Bodhidharma landed in Shaolin Temple and founded the Chan School of Buddhism. For physical fitness between his long meditation sessions, Bodhidharma created a series of exercises to stretch his limbs and strengthen his body. These exercises were taught to Shaolin monks to improve their health and thus began tradition of Shaolin Kung Fu and Shaolin Kung Fu monks. Shaolin Temple is credited and revered as the birth place of not only Shaolin Kung Fu, but also Chan Buddhism, known to the Western world as Zen (Japanese name for Chan).
As we age, the importance of health becomes more and more apparent. In practicing the Health Exercise forms associated with traditional Kung Fu, students not only train what the eye can see, but they will explore aspects of health that their minds can feel. Are you looking for a greater of experience of life? You don't have to wait!
